I still remember the accident very vividly to this day. I was a kid, only 9 years old when a driver having a seizure hit our car head on. The collision rocked our vehicle and caused it rollover and become airborne.
My sister and I were ejected from the back hatch and landed safely in the grass only 5 feet away from the separated back axle.
Miraculously, nobody was hurt seriously. I had minor damage to my face and teeth, but my sister and parents were not harmed.
My sister and I were ejected from an airborne vehicle with no harm.
My parents were flipped inside the vehicle with no harm either.
God’s divine protection was with us that day.
His angels carried my sister and I out of the car and helped us land safely with no harm. It’s an incredible miracle that I will never forget.
I’ve lived with that experience my entire life but never realized the significance until God dropped me on my knees years later.
I finally realized the depth of his love. How our lives were spared. I cried to Christ out of an utter sense of thankfulness, realization of what grace means, and even shame that I had spent so much of my life without even acknowledging what God did that day.
It was divine protection that saved us.
And it’s available to all of His people.
What does the Bible say about protection?
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
The Holy Scriptures are filled with countless stories of God protecting his people.
But the pain of hardship makes us forget about His promises and what His word says. The Israelites forgot very quickly about the slavery in Egypt that God brought them out of. They complained so much that they wanted to go back in to slavery.
And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years.
Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the LORD your God disciplines you.
Did any part of that scripture jump out to you?
For me, it was the part about man not living on bread alone, but by every word that comes from the Lord. That was very meaningful and important to me.
The scripture says to rest in His word. Meditate on His word. Listen to His word.
His Word is our refuge and protection. A refuge is a shelter from protection of danger.
His word is a form of protection for us. By believing His word, it enforces and builds our faith and trust that He is going to always protect and take care of us.
How do you pray for protection?
Bring your mind and heart to a quiet place where you can sit in peace.
Take a few deep breaths and continue to calm your mind.
Imagine you’re sitting with Christ, listening him talk with the disciples. After he’s done, he looks to you. He pauses for a few seconds and looks in your eyes. He asks you what’s on your mind.
What are you seeking protection from?
Explain your situation to Christ. Let him know what’s going on in your life.
Then sit back and listen in your heart. Listen for his comforting yet strong words that will hold and protect you.
Go through this exercise and then pray from your heart.
Use this prayer as a starting point.
Mighty and glorious is your name! I can forever ponder the majesty and splendor of your kingdom.
Oh Lord, how I seek your shelter and comfort.
Protect me Lord. Keep me in your ways. May your hand be over my life and my family. I look to you for all direction and guidance in my life. I turn to you, look to you, and listen to you in all that I do.
Send your angels by my side for protection. May your angels be with me and protect me.
Walk with me Father, be by my side.
Thank you father for your protection.
In the Father, His son, and spirit.
Amen.
Does God protect me from my enemies?
deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.
For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O LORD,
for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see!
You, LORD God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah
Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips– for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?”
But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision.
O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress.
My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield!
For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,
consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah
Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill.
But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
After reading this scripture from Psalms, can you put yourself in David’s position? Enemies were all around him, yet he trusted in the Lord. That’s so hard to do in the face of fear. Especially when someone is after your life.
We can’t imagine someone after our life, but think about David’s faith. What was his relationship with God like? He must have been very close to have that much faith in the face of adversity.
Yes, God protects us from our enemies.
Just look at David’s situation.
He will protect you in your situation as well.
It takes faith, trust, and relationship with Him.
But what if it seems like the enemy keeps winning battles?
First, examine your life and see if there’s any sin that could leave an open door for the enemy to attack. For example, unforgiveness is an open door for the enemy. Unforgiveness is a poison and leaves you vulnerable to attacks from the enemy.
Begin to close the door by identifying unforgiveness and finding the root of it. Forgive anyone that has wronged you to close the door.
Also, don’t falsely accuse the Lord for something the enemy has done.
Remember, it’s the enemy who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
Where do I go from Here?
Search the scriptures for more verses of protection. Read them aloud and find the ones that you identify with.
When you’ve found one, read it a few times to sit and meditate on the word. Listen to how Christ talks with you through the word.
Use it to build your strength, faith, and ultimately perseverance.
The Lord will protect you from anything that comes against you.
